CCS – For a sky full of hope.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

What if we could stop carbon emissions before they reach the air – and even reduce what's already there?

Öresundskraft is developing Innozhero, one of the world’s first full-scale CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) facilities on a combined heat and power plant, Filbornaverket. The project is essential to helping the City of Helsingborg reach climate neutrality by 2030. By 2029, the plant will capture and store 200,000 tons of CO₂ annually, half fossil, half biogenic, making Filbornaverket climate neutral while also removing carbon from the atmosphere.

CO-FOUNDED

Powering Helsingborg’s path to net zero.

In 2024, Helsingborg’s CCS initiative at the Filborna waste-to-energy plant was awarded €54 million from the EU Innovation Fund through CINEA, along with approximately €24 million in national funding from the Swedish Energy Agency’s Industriklivet program, recognizing the project’s strong potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

NEGATIVE EMISSIONS

Helping local companies close the gap to net zero.

Negative emissions mean permanently removing carbon dioxide that would otherwise circulate in the atmosphere. At the Filborna plant in Helsingborg, biogenic CO₂ is captured and stored underground, creating a carbon sink. These removals can help local companies, who have already done everything they can to cut emissions, eliminate their final climate impact.

To meet climate challenges, we need to capture and store carbon dioxide geologically with CCS.
