Öresundskraft’s investment in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) at Filbornaverket supports this ambition by capturing 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually and storing it permanently underground. This innovative step significantly reduces emissions from waste-to-energy production, helping to lower the climate impact of the heat supplied to homes, businesses, and buildings across the region.
But it’s not just about reducing emissions — it’s also about long-term competitiveness and regulatory compliance. Under EU regulations, waste-to-energy plants like Filbornaverket will face increasing costs for fossil CO₂ emissions, while the gradual phase-out of emission allowances will make continued emissions increasingly expensive.
