With Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) at Filbornaverket, Helsingborg is transforming how waste becomes energy. By capturing both fossil and biogenic CO₂ before it reaches the atmosphere, the plant drastically reduces fossil emissions from waste incineration while also removing carbon from the atmosphere. It also goes a step further by removing biogenic carbon from the natural cycle and creating negative emissions that help lower global CO₂ levels. These certified removals are available to local businesses and organisations to help address the emissions they cannot eliminate themselves and support their net zero goals. Together, these efforts make CCS a key driver of Helsingborg’s 2030 climate goals, delivering real climate benefits, making waste incineration part of the solution, and contributing to lower global CO₂ emissions.
